Welcome to Young African Refugees For Integral Development
Young African Refugees for Integral Development (YARID) is a registered NGO based in Kampala, founded in 2007 by young Congolese refugees living in Uganda.
YARID unites urban refugees through avenues like sports, English classes, and vocational skills training in order to address social issues like ethnic conflicts, unemployment, public health, and lack of access to education. Refugees that YARID serves mainly come from the Great Lakes Region: Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.
Our Mission. The mission of YARID is to empower refugees, Asylum seekers and other displaced persons around Africa to overcome the burdens of deprivation and vulnerability to become healthy, educated, self-sustaining and contributing members of society.
We offer free education internally displaced persons to help help realize and achieve their goals.
We offer seminars and training to equip the youth and all vulnerable persons with skills to make them self-sustaining.
Our contribution to society is to help the unprivileged access the same services like the privileged. Equitable access of resources.
Education
Speaking English is necessary for a urban refugees living in Kampala to successfully integrate into society. YARID offers English classes from non-literate to advanced levels.
Women Empowerment
Vocational Training in tailoring and craft making support refugee women to learn a new technical skill that will carry them forward into self-sufficiency.
Sports For Development
Through sports, YARID encourages youth to live a healthy lifestyle by organizing soccer games for physical activity and teaching life skills such as peace building and conflict resolution.
Innovations Hub
YARID is at the center of innovation learning. YARID hosts classes in computers and social media to enable refugees to connect and express themselves across the global network.
