Since the Government announced the total lockdown in April this year, YARID has been at the forefront providing lifesaving support to both refugees and Ugandans in Kampala.
Using the door to door approach YARID volunteers have been distributing food and nonfood items to the most vulnerable refugees and has reached 1,200 individuals. In addition to this, YARID has received support from the Open Society Foundation (OSF) which will allow us to support up to 1,500 households with food and nonfood items, 120 for business recovery support and to provide emergency medical support.
YARID is also part of the URBAN MASK TASKFORCE led by UNHCR which is an urban refugee mask production and distribution taskforce to ensure provision of quality and safe masks to all vulnerable urban refugees and asylum in need. The overall goal of the non-medical masks (NMMs) distribution is to provide each of the 70,967 vulnerable urban refugees and asylum seekers at least one mask so as to contribute to the reduction of the risk of spread of Covid-19.
